Denise Balch, Principal Consultant, President and Founder of Connex, has a long and successful career in the employee benefits field working with private health care stakeholders, including plan sponsors. Ms. Balch has worked as a benefits consultant, group marketing manager and regional director. During that time, over 20 years ago, she founded the Benefits Breakfast Club (BBC).
Between 2000 and 2014, in addition to delivering education programs through the BBC, Ms. Balch played a leadership role in the workplace health and wellbeing field, developing ground breaking workplace programs and initiatives with tangible outcomes measurement, including a dynamic health risk assessment. Under her consultation her clients received Excellence Canada recognition for their programs.
Leadership Ms. Balch was an early adopter of the Excellence Canada Healthy Workplace Criteria and gained her Certified Excellence Professional, Healthy Workplace designation. She was nominated as a finalist in the Benefits Canada Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. She has authored articles in benefits publications and spoken at numerous conferences and events across North America on the business case for employee wellness, successful workplace health programs and measurement, the integration of wellness and benefits and her family’s three generation journey to a mental health diagnosis.
It takes a team to consistently deliver high quality programming to Canada’s evolving benefits industry. In recent years Ms. Balch has developed the important role Connex plays in benefits education and fostering dialogue with the addition of the Benefits and Private Healthcare Associate (BPHA) program. These developments would not have been possible without the hard work of respected industry leaders on several advisory boards and the support of outstanding presenters and instructors, as well as the assistance of Nathan Smofsky, Connex’s Marketing & IT Coordinator.
